My name is Lilli Klint and I developed Lilly's Eco Clean product range while working as a contract cleaner on the East Coast of Ireland. I started my cleaning business working with conventional cleaning products and some months later began to feel ill. I developed very bad sinusitis that didn't respond to medication. I was also sneezing so hard that my back got very sore. After a while I started to look for answers, stopped using conventional cleaners and all my symptoms cleared.

This experience made me want to find more and so I began to research the whole subject of the way we clean our homes. To my horror I learnt that more than 5000 chemicals are commonly used in toiletries and household cleaning products, many of which are derived from the petrochemical industry. These can contain hazardous waste materials, hormone disrupting preservatives, neurotoxins, artificial perfumes and colorings, all of which can cause the air inside our homes to be more polluted than outdoor air and present a very real threat to our health.

I began to look for alternatives and searched out old recipes for cleansing agents derived from plant and vegetable-based materials. This led me to experiment with making my own cleaners at home in my kitchen.

I was very fortunate in having the Irish Times review my business in June 2003. The resulting article hugely enhanced its profile leading to increased sales.

This inspired me to started developing and manufacturing the products on a larger scale. In August 2003, I was honoured to receive an award from An Taisce for the most innovative environmentally friendly entrepreneur.

In January 2005 Lilly's Eco Clean moved to beautiful West Cork. The company rents a unit in the Centra Commercial Park in Castletownbere and this is where it all happens!
